Tiny Theatre

Wed 24 – Fri 26, 2pm-10pm & Sat 27, 10am-2pm

During Pride 2021 The Charlotte Museum pops up to exhibit items and objects from its unique collections about the historical queer lesbian communities of Aotearoa and their shared lesbian cultural experience.

The Charlotte Museum is the only museum in Australasia preserving the artefacts and histories of queer lesbians and their communities, and as such has a diverse collection in many genres, including books, postcards, publications, t-shirts, photos, films, badges, posters, ceramics, textiles and artwork. This exhibition is an opportunity to enjoy the complex and intriguing, sometimes humorous, passionate stories of queer lesbians who are often unseen, or intentionally ignored in mainstream history.

Through their stories you will meet an unapologetic radical community of beautiful, handsome, diverse, political, loud and proud lesbian women who came before. You will find connections and ask questions and know you are not alone and never have been.

On Sat 27 Feb the museum’s collections and research archive invites you to bring in donations from 10am. We would love the opportunity to preserve your treasures and their stories as part of the museum on behalf of the generations to come.

This event was made possible through the Pride & Spark Empowerment Initiative.
